Teardown Details
No turning back now!
New PC680. Will need a new mount and it may move to the back of the firewall anyway.
Stock gear. I'll get these cleaned up a bit and offer them up for sale, along with a bunch of other stock parts I won't need anymore.
No more bungee gymnastics! I think the inadequate clearance of the new cross-over exhaust sped up the deterioration of the rubber.
The washers on both sides are still flat and haven't budged since they were installed. I take that as a good sign, considering some of the things I've done in this airplane and it's age.
The radio stack is coming out. I'd like to put a smoke tank here and remove the upper wing tank entirely. Not sure if I can fit a four gallon tank in the available space.
The rudder trailing edge hoop shows the worst rust on the entire airframe. There was some moderate to serious pitting and loss of material. Glad it's getting replaced.
Lyc IO-360-B4A accessory case.
Updraft sump with Bendix servo. I would like to figure out a better alt air box.
The old 35 Ah battery. The new one is half the weight and size.
Stab H-tube looks perfect. I need to check the wall thickness and apply Tech Tip if necessary.
Sparcraft wing guts.
Parts from four airplanes. Zero airplanes flying. Pathetic...
Old tailwheel and spring. Busted stringer. I think this happened while pulling the fabric. Easy repair.
Will build exhaust tunnel with new gear. Exhaust clearance issues will be fixed.
Tallest gascolator I've ever seen in a little airplane. The shiny part was exposed to the airstream. Will probably replace with metal ACS unit. That should only expose the drain valve.
Back of the panel.
Not much airplane left at this stage.
Lycoming IO-360-B4A. Original engine that was new when the plane was completed. About 850 hours TT now.
Where it all happens.
All torn down. Now the fun work can start.
Riley was assisting Dad and Pops with the Pitts work.
She might need some pedal extensions
